Watering recommendation for: September 18-24, 2026

Water your lawn and flowers: 0.02 inches for the week

If your lawn has deep roots split this into two watering days with 0.01 inches/watering.

If your lawn has shallow roots split this into three watering days with 0.006 inches/watering.

Tip of the week:

After the rain this last week, wait to turn on your sprinkler system until the soil dries. Plant roots need air as well as water. Give your plants a chance to breathe and watch the weather forecasts before watering your yard. Use your DIY Green Grass Gauge to measure how much water is applied from the rain or your sprinklers. Aerate your lawn with a corer or fork so water applied by sprinklers or natural rainfall will go into the soil reservoir of the grass instead of runoff. Lightly fertilize to give lawn some strength and vigor. Apply bark mulch or garden compost to shrub and perennial beds over the top of soaker hoses or other drip watering methods to hold the water in the soil reservoir for the plants to draw upon over time.

Leave your DIY Green Grass Gauge out in the rain to see how much free rainwater was applied to your yard and garden. Depending on how much rain has fallen, you may still need to apply additional water with your sprinklers as summer transitions to fall.
